In December 2020, within the Yamaguchi Division, a work shop was opened for disassembling small appliances and sorting the parts, named “Recycle Kobo Nijiiro.” The employees were newly hired from a local organization that supports people with disabilities. Small appliances, primarily PCs and smartphones, are dismantled by hand and the parts sorted into rare metals, circuit boards, batteries, etc. These separate resources are sold to specialized dealers for recycling. The name “Nijiiro” means “the colors of the rainbow,” and just as a rainbow is made up of multiple colors, the endeavor aims to build a gracious society that accommodates all types of individuals.
